Cheri A surprise. This movie was excellent. The acting was superb for lack of big name actors and actually, none we have heard of. Love the story especially since it was based on a true story. “Southern Gospel” is a 2023 film based on a true story. It revolves around the life of Samuel Allen, who faced many hardships in his youth but never stopped following his passion to become a preacher. He believes that faith can change a person's whole life.
Many aspects of Southern Gospel are predictable, but solid performances from most of the cast members help overcome some clichés of faith-based films. This biopic of Dream Church founder Samuel Allen also benefits from having good original songs.
Southern Gospel is a faith-based, redemptive film. However, it should be noted that this film is rated PG-13 for mature thematic content, drug use, violent content, suicide, and language.
On the other hand, southern gospel lyrics are typically overt in their Christian message unlike Contemporary Christian music (CCM) which sometimes has had "double entendre" lyrics, which could be interpreted as being about a devout love for God or an earthly love for a man or woman.
Like St. Matthew, Luke derives much of his Gospel from that of St.Mark, generally following Mark's sequence and incorporating about 50 percent of Mark's material into his work.
